DePrez wins 184-pound title at EIWA Championships

Bearcats take sixth in team points, ties record mark

BETHLEHEM, PA. – Redshirt sophomore No. 4 Lou DePrez highlighted the Binghamton University wrestling team's day two at EIWA Championships with the 184-pound title. DePrez became the second Bearcat to earn the first place trophy, joining heavyweight Tyler Deuel (2015) as the only Binghamton wrestlers to do so.

As a team, Binghamton finished the tournament in sixth place out of 17 teams, which ties the program record mark set a season ago. In total, four Bearcats made it to the podium, including a third place finish by Zack Trampe, and sixth place finishes by Anthony Sparacio and Joe Doyle.

Highlights
  • In a match against Tanner Harvey in the semi-final, DePrez was able put together a 3-2 decision before facing Lehigh's Chris Weiler.
  • Weiler had beaten DePrez earlier in the season, but DePrez was able to get an early takedown and showed no let up on top to secure the 4-0 decision. Besides a late attempt in the third, Weiler did not come close to a takedown.
  • No. 2 seed Zack Trampe fell in the semi-final, but managed to win his next two bouts to take third place. The semi-final matchup went into overtime, but his opponent Nick Farro managed a sudden victory takedown.
  • His first consolation bout started slow, with Penn's Carmen Ferrante taking an early 5-1 lead, but a strong second period tied it up and Trampe got a pin moments later to kick off the third. His third place clincher was a 6-4 decision over Navy's Casey Cobb
  • Anthony Sparacio and Joe Doyle each took sixth place in their respective weight classes.
