Women’s Basketball Defeated by New Hampshire 57-52

Bowman scores 14 points, Wasco adds 10 points

VESTAL, N.Y. --- Brooke Kane hit the go-ahead three-point field goal with 1:06 left in regulation, lifting New Hampshire (3-7, 3-4 AE) to a 57-52 win over Binghamton (2-7, 2-5 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Sunday evening at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The game marked the first of back-to-back contests between the two teams, who will square off again on Monday at 2 p.m.

In a game that featured three ties and four lead changes in the final period alone, Kane broke a 52-52 deadlock when she swished her shot from the right perimeter. She was one of three New Hampshire players to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with 12 points.

The lead stayed at three points until Ivy Gogoloin, who ended up with game highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds, converted a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to ice the game.

The loss overshadowed an impressive performance by sophomore guard Denai Bowman. She netted a team-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds, a career-high five assists, a career-high five steals and a block. In addition, Bowman also played a career-high 39 minutes.

Senior forward Kaylee Wasco added 10 points to go along with five rebounds and a career-best four blocks.

The Bearcats fell behind 20-6 with 7:23 left in the second period but came all the way back to tie the game at 41-41 at the end of the third period. Sophomore guard Cassidy Roberts hit the buzzer beater to deadlock the game.

Binghamton took the lead twice in the fourth period. Its last lead of the game came when sophomore forward Birna Benonysdottir drained a three-pointer that gave the Bearcats a 48-47 advantage with 6:31 left in regulation.

From there, however, the Bearcats struggled to take care of the basketball. They turned the ball over on six of their final 10 possessions. The Wildcats, meanwhile, scored seven points off of those miscues.

"We didn't put ourselves in a good position to win," head coach Bethann Shaprio Ord said. "When you turn the ball over as much as we did and they score 26 points off of those turnovers, it's going to be a rough night. As tough of a game as we had, we still had a chance to win at the end. I was proud of the fight we showed in coming back from 14 points down. Denai gave us so much on both ends of the court. She played tremendous today and did a lot of the little things we needed from her."

For the game, Binghamton turned the ball over a season-high 24 times.

Free throws also played a pivotal role in the outcome. While New Hampshire went 11-for-17 from the free throw line, Binghamton missed all four of their attempts.

Benonysdottir finished with nine points and a pair of blocks while Roberts chipped in four points and notched career highs in both rebounds (seven) and assists (six).

Also reaching double figures for New Hampshire was Amanda Torres, who scored 11 points and recorded a game-high seven steals.

As a team, Binghamton posted season highs in both assists (14) and blocks (nine).
