Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s lacrosse falls to Vermont 17-10

Bearcats lose momentum late in first half to Catamounts

The Binghamton University women's lacrosse team was defeated by the University of Vermont by a score of 17-10 Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex in Vestal. The Bearcats led 4-2 early on, but the Catamounts used a late run in the first half to carry them to victory.

The Bearcats struck first, as sophomore Rebecca Korn put away a goal in the opening five minutes. Emily Masera made it 2-0 on a finish of her own before the two sides went back-and-forth for the next ten minutes.

The momentum switched in Vermont's favor over the latter stages of the half, as the Catamounts trimmed a 4-2 BU edge to tie it at four. Four minutes later, with the match tied at six, Vermont went on to score the final five goals of the frame to lead 11-6 at the break.

The second half started how the first half ended, with the Catamounts scoring twice to extend the advantage. Masera ended the Binghamton scoring drought with a goal and freshman Madison Murphy added her first of the game moments later.

The final ten minutes saw three goals from both teams, and Vermont took the win, 17-10.

Emily Masera led the way with three goals for the Bearcats, while Rebecca Korn matched her in points, scoring twice and adding an assist. Alyssa Sanchez tallied seven draw controls and five ground balls and Sam Fama caused two turnovers.

Statistically, Binghamton had the edge in several categories over Vermont including shots (37 to 32), ground balls (25 to 21), and free-position shots (13-4).

Binghamton will continue its play at home with a matchup against UMBC. Opening draw will be at 1 p.m.
