ALBANY, N.Y. – Austin DaSilva finished with a goal and an assist, leading Albany (2-4-1, 1-2-1 AE) to a 2-1 victory over Binghamton (2-2-0, 2-2-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Friday afternoon at Ford Field at Casey Stadium. The loss is the second straight road setback for the Bearcats, who will conclude their regular season next Friday at home against Hartford.
DaSilva keyed a Great Dane comeback in the final 16 minutes of regulation. With the Great Danes down 1-0, he netted an unassisted goal in the 74th minute. In the 87th minute, he got the second assist on Adam Aoumaich's goal. Guillermo Mijancos tallied the primary assist.
The Bearcats had jumped out to a 1-0 in the 27th minute of play. Senior midfielder
Noah Luescher's initial shot hit the post but freshman midfielder
Cooper Sayles knocked the rebound into the net.
For Sayles, it was is second goal in the past three games. Luescher, meanwhile, now has 11 total points (2.20 points per game). He has five goals to go along with his assist on Sayles' goal.
Following Aoumaich's goal, the Bearcats were unable to get another shot on goal during the remainder of the match.
"I thought we started the match well but I am disappointed with how we played in the second half," head coach
Paul Marco said. "Our fitness wasn't good enough and our guys really need to look into that. We do have a week to prepare for our next match and still have a lot to play for to have a good season."
Albany outshot Binghamton 12-8 for the game, including 8-3 in the decisive second half.
Next Friday's match against Hartford is slated to start at 3 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
