Rams win game one 4-0, take nightcap 3-1

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Playing in its first games in 10 days, Binghamton dropped a non-conference softball doubleheader against Fordham on Wednesday afternoon at Bahoshy Field. The Rams (31-5) won the first game against the Bearcats (7-11) 4-0 before taking a 3-1 decision in the second game.

Devon Miller pitched a two-hit shutout in the opener, striking out 12 batters and not issuing a walk. Offensively, Julia Martinez finished with a pair of RBI and scored once.

Miller improved to 11-2 this season while the loss was tagged to senior pitcher Rayn Gibson, who struck out five batters in her three innings of work.

The second game featured a scoreless pitchers' duel for four innings between freshman Allison L'Amoreaux and Madie Auginbaugh.

It was Auginbaugh's work at the plate, however, that proved decisive. She broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with a RBI single and singled home another run one inning later, padding the lead to 2-0. The Rams got their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a wild pitch.

The Bearcats broke the shutout in the top of the seventh inning. Senior shortstop Makayla Alvarez led off with a double and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Alex Guay. She would be, however, the Bearcats' final base runner of the game.

Auginbaugh raised her record to 12-1 while Anne Marie Prentiss recorded her first save of the season. L'Amoreaux, meanwhile, is 0-1.

Alvarez and sophomore outfieldler Jillian Fittry each finished the doubleheader 2-for-6 (.333.). For the season, Alvarez is now hitting .306 with two home runs and seven RBI.

Binghamton returns home for a four-game conference series against UMass Lowell this weekend. There will be noon doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. The Bearcats' annual Senior Day Ceremony is slated for Saturday.
