Women's soccer topples Bryant 3-1

Anand scores twice, Bloom nets first collegiate goal as BU makes it two in a row with road win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Junior forward Maya Anand scored twice in a 4:33 span early in the second half to power Binghamton women's soccer (2-1) past host Bryant (0-1) 3-1 Thursday afternoon at Bulldog Soccer Field.

Anand netted her second and third goals of the season in a flurry with a Bryant goal sandwiched in-between. Already ahead 1-0 on a terrific first-half tally from sophomore forward Carly Bloom, BU doubled its lead in the 54th minute. Junior forward Stefania Piantadosi sent a cross into the box and Anand put home the header - the same way the pair had connected in Sunday's win over Fordham.

Bryant tightened the margin just 49 seconds later but Anand immediately struck again. Freshman forward Peyton Gilmore earned a corner kick with strong attacking and the ensuing set piece from junior midfielder Olivia McKnight resulted in another Anand header in the 59th minute for the final margin.

"Today was a well-earned result on the road," head coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. "It was tough heat to play through for both sides and Bryant gave us a share of tactical things we needed to work through. This team has shown good progress since preseason and belief within our process."

Binghamton held a 16-11 shots advantage. Senior keeper Haylee Poltorak recorded six saves.

Bloom scored her first collegiate goal in the 34th minute to open the scoring. "Getting a terrific strike from Carly in the upper 90 helped to settle the game for us," Bhattacharjee added."

Binghamton plays the second of three consecutive road games Sunday at Temple. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. in Philadelphia and the game will be shown on ESPN+.

"We know we are capable of more," Bhattacharjee said. "So while we are very happy with the 'W' we know our journey continues, improvements can still be made and our best soccer is still to come. We now recover to get prepped for what should be another tough opponent in Temple."
