DOVER, DE. - The Binghamton volleyball team fell to Delaware State in three sets Sunday afternoon to finish its weekend series with the Hornets. The home team was able to take the 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 scoreline despite 11 digs by Emily Rail and nine kills by Stefana Stan.
The match was tied at four early in the first set, but Delaware State used a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage. An 8-3 run for BU brought the team to within one at 13-12, but the Hornets went on an extended 12-4 run to take the frame.
The second set was led by Delaware State for all but the first point, despite Binghamton keeping it close to start. Trailing 15-11, BU relinquished five straight points to fall out of contention. The Bearcats managed to make a run, but fell 25-18.
The third set was filled with runs, but favored the Hornets. Two 6-0 runs and a 5-0 run were enough for Delaware State to come away with a 25-16 win, and a straight set victory.
Binghamton will return to Vestal to prepare for America East play. The Bearcats will hit the road Friday for a matchup with N.J.I.T at 6 p.m.
