Genevieve Coleman scored a game-high and career-best 20 points and senior forward
Clare Traeger finished with a career-high 19 rebounds, powering Binghamton (3-1) to a 71-45 win over Pitt-Johnstown (2-0) 71-45 in a non-conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court in the Events Center. With the victory, the Bearcats are off to their best start since going 4-0 to start the 2019-20 season.
Coleman went 8-for-10 from the floor, 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc and made both of her free throw attempts. She also recorded five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and added a steal.
Traeger, meanwhile, grabbed 15 of her rebounds on the defensive end and eclipsed her previous career high of 18 total rebounds, which she recorded against Vermont last Feb. 9. With nine points against Pitt-Johnstown, Traeger just missed recorded her second double-double of the season. Through four games this year, she is averaging a career-best 11.0 rebounds per contest.
Binghamton as a team shot 51 percent against the Mountain Cats (26-of-51). At the other end of the court, the Bearcats held Pitt-Johnstown to just 24.2 percent shooting from the field (16-of-66).
"We shared the ball very well on offense tonight," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "Genevieve played terrific and made her shots and Clare played great on the defensive end of the court."
Nursing a 29-21 lead at the break, Binghamton shot 63 percent during the third period (10-of-16) to go up 53-34. Coleman had 10 points and Traeger scored eight points during that 10-minute stretch.
The Bearcats then built their lead as high as 64-36 with 6:45 left in regulation.
Senior guard
Denai Bowman once again filled up the stat sheet against Pitt-Johnstown. She turned in a 12-point, four-rebound, three-assist, two-block, one-steal performance.
Redshirt freshman guard
Ella Wanzer, meanwhile, chipped in eight points, two assists and blocked a career-high three shots.
Peyton Alazaus led the Mountain Cats with 14 points while Makalyn Clapper added 11 points.
Binghamton dished out a season-high 20 assists, six of which were turned in by senior guard

Jadyn Weltz added four assists.
The Bearcats finished with a 34-24 advantage in points in the paint and an 18-7 lead in bench points.
Binghamton heads to Canisius on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
NOTE: Because Pitt-Johnstown competes at the NCAA Division II level, the game was an exhibition game and did not count towards its record.
