Softball Sweeps Pair of Games

Bearcats beat Georgia Southern 5-1 and East Tennessee State 9-1

STATESBORO, Ga. – Binghamton (3-1) broke out the bats and was just as impressive on the mound as it swept a pair of games at the Battle of the Boro Softball Tournament on Saturday at the GS Complex. The Bearcats defeated the host Eagles (2-1) 5-1 in the opener before topping East Tennessee (0-3) 9-1 in five innings in the final.

The Bearcats hit .365 as a team during the two games and clubbed six extra-base hits. Defensively, sophomore pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux and graduate student pitcher Chelsea Howard combined to post a 1.17 ERA.

"It's always a good day when you can get a sweep," head coach Jess Bump said. "I was really happy with how we came out this afternoon and responded after yesterday night's loss. We are locked in offensively and scoring runs throughout, which is taking a lot of pressure of our pitchers. Our whole team is contributing and bought in to our plan and that is why we are seeing these results."

L'Amoreaux continued her impressive all-around weekend. She tossed a complete game victory in the opener against Georgia Southern, scattering one run on three hits and striking out five batters to up her record to 2-0. At the plate, she went 4-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and a pair of RBI.

Senior third baseman Alli Richmond finished the day 2-for-5 with a home run and team-best three RBI. Sophomore catcher Hailey Ehlers was 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI.

Down 1-0 in the top of the second inning against Georgia Southern, the Bearcats tied the game on a RBI triple by junior outfielder Jillian Fittry. She scored one batter later on a single by senior outfielder Chloe Morgan.

One inning later, Ehlers padded the lead to 4-1 on a two-run single. L'Amoreaux then completed the scoring when she led off the top of the fifth inning with her second home run in as many games.

Unlike the previous day against Georgia Southern, the Bearcats were able to finish off the game. L'Amoreaux held the Eagles to just one hit over the final three innings.

With the Bearcats already up 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning against East Tennessee State, Richmond singled home freshman outfielder Sarah Rende, increasing the lead to 3-0. She then scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Alayna Harbaugh.

The Bucs trimmed the deficit to 4-1 in the top of the third inning but the Bearcats blew the game open with five more runs in the bottom of the same inning. L'Amoreaux doubled home a run but Richmond provided the big blow with a two-run home run.

From there, Howard held East Tennessee scoreless over the next two innings to complete the five-inning victory. Her record is now 1-0.

The three RBI in the second game is a career high for Richmond as is the two doubles for L'Amoreaux.

Rende finished nightcap 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

L'Amoreaux has hit safely in all four games this weekend and has a .538 batting average. With three doubles and two home runs, her slugging percentage is 1.231. She and Richmond are tied for the team lead with four RBI.

Ehlers leads the team with a .545 batting average through the first four games this season while Richmond is batting .455.

Binghamton wraps up its stay at the Battle of the Boro Tournament with a 9 a.m. game against East Tennessee State on Sunday.
