SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Binghamton women's lacrosse fell to No. 3 Syracuse by a score of 23-6 to open the 2022 season. BU's play was highlighted by the freshmen, including two goals by Abby Carroll and another deep score by
Olivia Muscolino.
Sophomore
Madison Murphy added two goals of her own, while
Emily Masera contributed two assists. Defensively,
Kelly Quinn forced two turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
Cassidy Evans added three ground balls.
BU opened the first quarter with a strong first few minutes, forcing two turnovers combined with two saves by
Emily Manning. The Orange broke through, scoring a goal just before the 10-minute mark, and then went on to score five more to open a 6-0 advantage.
Muscolino got the Bearcats on the board with a perfectly placed shot from distance on an assist by
Kenna Newman.
Jesse Barer added a free position goal to cut the deficit to 7-2 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter began with an Abby Carroll finish to make it 7-3, but Binghamton was shut down offensively for the remainder of the half.
The Bearcats added a fourth goal in the third quarter, and added two in the fourth. Murphy put one home off a feed from Barer, before Carroll (free position shot) scored. Murphy capped off the BU scoring with a goal in the final seconds.
Binghamton will continue road play against Colgate Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m.
