Women’s Basketball Defeated 62-53 at UMass Lowell

Bowman and Moore net 11 points each, Benonysdottir adds 10 points

LOWELL, Mass. – Kharis Idom scored a game-high 17 points and Kaylen Banwareesingh finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, powering UMass Lowell (9-11, 6-5 AE) to a 62-53 win over Binghamton (5-17, 1-11 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Monday afternoon at the Costello Center. The contest marked the Bearcats' second of three straight road games that they are playing within a five-day span.

Idom was 6-of-11 from the floor, drained three of her five three-point field goal attempts and swished both of her free throws. She also dished out a game-high four assists and added three steals. Banwareesingh, meanwhile, was 4-for-6 from the field as well as 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc.

For the Bearcats, junior guard Denai Bowman and senior guard Hayley Moore each finished with a team-best 11 points while junior forward Birna Benonysdottir added 10 points. Bowman also recorded four rebounds, three assists, a block and two steals. Benonysdottir, meanwhile, was 5-for-10 from the field.

The host River Hawks jumped out to a 24-11 lead with 6:11 left in the second period. Binghamton, however, went on a 15-6 run to narrow the gap to 32-26 at the half. Junior forward Jalyn Van Dyke led a balanced attack with five points during that stretch while Moore had four points.

In the fourth period, the Bearcats clawed to within 55-51 on a pair of free throws by Bowman with 3:11 left to go in regulation. The deficit was still at four points (57-53) with 1:19 left to go but Idom and Banawareesingh scored the final five points to ice the game.

The host River Hawks shot 44 percent for the game (22-of-50) compared to 40 percent for the Bearcats (21-of 53). From three-point range, meanwhile, UMass Lowell made seven of its 13 attempts (54 percent).

Junior forward Clare Traeger pulled down a team-best seven rebounds while freshman forward Genevieve Coleman finished with seven points and five rebounds.

Binghamton ends its road swing with a Wednesday game at Albany. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
