BEAUMONT, Texas - Host Lamar (2-0) scored six runs in the first inning and added six more in the seventh to pin a 16-1 loss on Binghamton baseball (0-2) Saturday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Bearcats collected 10 hits but left 11 stranded and the two big outbursts were more than enough for the Cardinals to take Game 2 of the weekend set.
Lamar scored runs in five of the first seven innings to take control. The teams combined for 25 hits one day after being locked in a 14-inning, 2-1 pitchers' duel.Â
Sophomore catcher
Kevin Reilly accounted for BU's lone run. He belted a 2-out, solo home run to left field in the sixth inning. Freshman third baseman
Devan Bade went 2-for-3 and freshman DH
Evin Sullivan went 2-for-4. Junior first baseman
Kevin Gsell had the team's lone extra-base hit with a third-inning double.Â
Freshman reliever
Caden Rothbaum was the most effective of BU's four pitchers. He finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings.Â
The teams conclude the three-game series with an 11 a.m. game Sunday.  Â
