Softball Wins 10-1 at Howard

DeCicco drives in three runs, Richmond adds pair of RBI

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior catcher Quinn DeCicco finished with a career-high three RBI and senior third baseman Alli Richmond drove in two runs, powering Binghamton (8-8) to a 10-1 win over Howard (8-14) in a non-conference softball game on Wednesday evening at the Nationals Youth Academy. The victory marked the first of six games that the Bearcats will play in the Washington D.C. area during their spring break.

The 10 runs represents the Bearcats' highest total of the season. It also marks Binghamton's highest total since defeating UMass Lowell 11-5 last May 1.

DeCicco belted a two-run single in the top of the second inning, putting the Bearcats ahead 2-0. After Howard trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning on a wild pitch, DeCicco was credited with her final RBI in the top of the fourth inning, which put the Bearcats up 3-1.

Binghamton scored five more times in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Richmond delivered the big blow with a two-run single. For the season, Richmond now leads the Bearcats with nine RBI.

The Bearcats' final two runs came in the top of the seventh inning on back-to-back solo home runs by freshman outfielder Sarah Rende and senior shortstop Makayla Alvarez. Rende is now tied for the team lead with three home runs while Alvarez now has a pair of home runs so far this season.

Alvarez is now tied for seventh place all-time in Binghamton program history with 18 home runs for her career. She is deadlocked with Nicole Vitello (2003-06) and Sydney Harbaugh (2013-16).

The last time two Bearcat players ht back-to-back home runs was against Hartford on May 7, 2021. Current sophomore Shelby Carvalho and Hannah Lyons each hit solo home runs in the process.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux went the distance, scattering one run on six hits and striking out a career-high eight batters. She is now 5-4. The loss was tagged to Sydney Hixenbaugh, who is now 1-3.

Rende and Alvarez each finished 2-for-3 and scored three times.

Binghamton heads to the Maryland Invitational Friday-Sunday.
