LEWISBURG, PA. - Binghamton women's lacrosse won its third game by 10 goals this season, tackling Bucknell 20-10 in a make-up game Wednesday afternoon at Graham Field. It is BU's fourth win of the year and first time reaching the 20-goal mark in 2022.
The Bearcats were led by senior attacker Emily Masera, who put home four goals and added an assist. Junior Kenna Newman and sophomore Jesse Barer added three apiece. In total, 12 players registered at least a goal or an assist.
Sofia Afkham continued her prowess, grabbing six draw controls. Kristen Scheidel added six over her own. Emily Manning made 11 saves in goal as she led the defensive effort.
The Bearcats maintained a steady attack in the first half, outscoring the Bison 5-2 in both the first and second quarters. Bucknell scored two of the first three goals of the contest, but Binghamton settled in with an extended 8-0 run over the course of 16 minutes of gameplay to take control.
Scoring three of the final five goals of the half, BU went to the locker room with a 12-4 advantage.
Bucknell stayed within reach in the third, scoring three times to Binghamton's three finishes before the Bearcats cruised to the win in the fourth quarter. A goal by Hayley Weltner and two more added by Barer put the game away. Senior Sidra Morchower got on the scoresheet to give Binghamton its 20th goal.
BU led nearly every team stat category including forced turnovers (13-11), ground balls (16-13) and free position goals (5-3).
The team will return home for its final non conference game Saturday afternoon against Quinnipiac. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
