VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Maine (6-11, 3-0 America East) did all their damage in the first four innings and completed a rare series sweep of Binghamton baseball (3-13, 0-3 AE) with a 7-1 win Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Baseball Stadium.
The three-game weekend sweep against the Black Bears was the first BU has suffered against a conference opponent in seven years.Â
The Bearcats were limited to five singles and Maine scored twice in the first, three in the second and two more in the fourth to build its cushion. Binghamton scored its lone run in the sixth inning. The Bearcats left 12 runners stranded, including seven in scoring position.Â
Sophomore reliever
Justin Rosner and junior reliever
Jack Collins were superb in relief, combining to toss five shutout innings. Rosner worked three innings and scattered three hits with six strikeouts. Collins struck out three and didn't allow a hit in his two frames.Â
In the sixth, BU pushed across its run thanks to two singles and two walks. Freshman third baseman
Devan Bade led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a balk. With two outs, sophomore shortstop
Isaiah Corry hit a single through the left side and freshman left fielder
Logan Haskell followed with a walk to load the bases. Junior second baseman
Cavan Tully brought the run in with a walk. But BU left the bases loaded after a fly out and the Bearcats collected just one hit the rest of the way.Â
Five different BU players had one hit apiece. Haskell reached base three times with a hit and two walks.Â
The Bearcats return to action on Friday when they begin a weekend series at UMass Lowell.  Â
