Men's Lacrosse Takes Down UMBC, 12-8

Bearcats start 2-0 in America East play for the first time since 2017

Binghamton men's lacrosse (4-4, 2-0 AE) defeated UMBC (2-4, 0-1 AE) by a final score of 12-8 in Vestal. With the win, BU begins America East play 2-0 for the first time since 2017. The Bearcats used a four goal run spanning the first and second quarter to jump out to a 4-1 lead and added two more goals in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead into the half. Keeping up the momentum in the second half, BU scored four straight goals again in the third quarter to push the lead to 10-3.

Defensively, the Bearcats were very solid throughout the game. The defensive unit was able to hold the Retrievers to just 27 shots on the day. In the net, redshirt junior Teddy Dolan finished the day with 10 saves, securing his second highest save percentage game of the season (.556%).

Despite losing the faceoff battle 18-6, BU was able to get the ball back in other ways causing eight turnovers and picking up 25 groundballs.

"I was pleased to see us win without getting those faceoffs. We were able to scrap and get possessions in other ways with groundballs and riding it back when they were clearing the ball," head coach Kevin McKeown said.

On the offensive end, senior Kevin Winkoff led the Bearcats attack. Winkoff continued his scoring ways, as he has pushed his scoring streak to eight games on the season. Winkoff found the back of the net four times and dished out an assist for a game high five points. Senior Daniel MacKinney had himself a day as well. MacKinney picked up his second consecutive hat trick with three goals in the contest. Freshman Matthew Keegan and sophomore Ethan Insinga each scored twice in the game with junior Quinn O'Hara rounding out the scoring with one goal on the day.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday at the Bearcats Sports Complex at 5 p.m. to take on No. 19 Lehigh.
