Men's lacrosse rolls past Hofstra 12-6

Bearcats use a 6-1 run in the third quarter to pull away for road win

Hempstead, N.Y.— Binghamton men's lacrosse (2-3) picked up the win at Hofstra (3-4) by a final score of 12-6. After being up 6-5 at the half the Bearcats used a 6-1 run in the third quarter to take a commanding 12-6 lead. Sparking the run for BU was junior midfielder Quinn O'Hara who scored back-to-back goals just 90 seconds apart. Four more Bearcats found the back of the net in the third quarter before Hofstra scored its lone goal of the second half with 42 seconds left in the third period.

"We have been stressing coming out of halftime with more energy than we had in past games," head coach Kevin McKeown said. "The team had great energy tonight and I was proud that we were able to do that."

Junior Matthew Desouza was dominant at the faceoff position posting a season high 19-22 faceoff wins to keep the Bearcats rolling. In a back and forth first half, five different players for BU found the back of the net. Junior Nicholas Imburgia got on the board for his first goal of the season followed by senior Kevin Winkoff, who kept his scoring streak alive as he has scored in every game so far this season. Daniel MacKinney closed out the scoring in the first quarter for the Bearcats off of a pass from Max Napoli with 5 minutes left in the quarter.

In the second quarter, redshirt sophomore Thomas Greenblatt found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season. Just a minute later junior Max Napoli was able to score his first goal of his career with 13 minutes left in the second. Freshman Matthew Keegan secured his second goal of the season to close out the half scoring for the Bearcats.

Defensively, BU caused 10 turnovers, with MacKinney and senior Drew Furlong both causing two. Desouza led the way with 10 groundballs and Furlong was close behind with eight, a career high. Only allowing one goal in the third quarter, the defense was stout in the second half.

Binghamton will return home on Saturday to take on Fairfield at 1 p.m.
