STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Freshman second baseman
Nick Roselli went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI and visiting Binghamton baseball (9-20, 5-9 America East) built an early 6-0 lead and cruised past Stony Brook (15-17, 10-4 AE) 8-4 Saturday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.Â
The Bearcats outhit their hosts 13-6 and evened the weekend series with the rubber game between the two longtime SUNY rivals set for Sunday afternoon.
Binghamton jumped ahead 1-0 on a Roselli solo home run in the top of the second. The blast to dead center cleared the batter's eye, giving Roselli four home runs for the spring.Â
One inning later, BU sent 10 men to the plate and scored five runs on six hits - with five of those coming after two outs.

Cavan Tully doubled down the left field line and two batters later, junior first baseman
Connor Aoki reached on an infield single. Freshman DH
Evin Sullivan walked to load the bases for Roselli, who ripped a two-run double into left center, giving BU a 3-0 lead. Sophomore catcher
Kevin Reilly followed with a two-run single to left field to make it 5-0. Freshman third baseman
Devan Bade singled to keep it going and senior shortstop
Jake Evans brought in the sixth run with a single through the right side.Â
Stony Brook cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth before freshman center fielder
Logan Haskell ended the uprising with a great diving catch in shallow center. The teams then played three scoreless middle innings.Â
Up 6-3, BU scored a run in the eighth after Roselli and Reilly singled and an infield throwing error plated Roselli. The teams then traded runs in the ninth with Aoki and Sullivan accounting for BU's run with back-to-back two-out doubles.Â
Sophomore
Gabe Driscoll (W, 2-0), reigning America East Pitcher of the Week. produced another strong outing with 6.0 innings of three-hit ball. Driscoll struck out four before giving way to sophomore
John Lumpinski (save), who worked the final three innings. Lumpinski scattered three hits and struck out three.Â
Reilly went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Aoki and Bade had two hits apiece.Â
The Bearcats had eight different players with hits and six different players with doubles. The Binghamton starting lineup again featured four freshmen and six underclassmen as BU won for the fifth time in eight games.   Â
