Baseball rallies past Stony Brook 6-4

Roselli, Tully drive in two each; Collins pitches final four innings for victory as BU wins series

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Visiting Binghamton (10-20, 6-9 America East) scored four runs in the final three innings to push past Stony Brook (15-18, 10-5 AE) 6-4 Sunday at Joe Nathan Field. The win gave the Bearcats the series victory over the defending regular season champions and was their sixth win in the last nine games.

Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Binghamton used a two-out, two-run double by freshman second baseman Nick Roselli to reclaim the lead. Junior left fielder Cavan Tully then delivered insurance with a two-out, two-run home run in the eighth.

Junior reliever Jack Collins (W, 2-2) pitched the final four innings and limited the Seawolves to four hits and one run with four strikeouts. Collins fanned the final two hitters after Stony Brook brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth.

Roselli capped a strong series with his go-ahead hit. The Long Island native returned home and drove in five runs in the three-game series with two doubles and a home run.

In the decisive seventh, freshman center fielder Logan Haskell hit a one-out single and junior first baseman Connor Aoki followed with a walk, setting the table for Roselli's big hit to left center.

In the eighth, freshman third baseman Devan Bade led off with a single. Three batters later, Tully jumped on the first pitch he saw and drilled it over the wall in right for his third home run of the season and a 6-3 BU lead.

Stony Brook took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first. Binghamton answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before the Seawolves scored one in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 3-2.

Tully, Bade and senior shortstop Jake Evans (2-for-3, RBI) had two hits apiece and Aoki added a solo home run in the fifth - his team-high sixth of the season.

Junior starter Ryan Bryggman had a solid no-decision showing. Bryggman worked 5.0 innings and scattered seven hits and three runs with four strikeouts.

The Bearcats travel to Ithaca Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game at Cornell.
