VESTAL, N.Y.--- Binghamton men's lacrosse (5-8, 3-3 AE) fell short by a final score of 9-7 at home against UMass Lowell (2-11, 2-4 AE). The Bearcats were led by senior Kevin Winkoff who scored twice in the game and redshirt sophomore Thomas Greenblatt who scored once and assisted on a Quinn O'Hara goal right before halftime.
After both teams scored in the first period, UMass Lowell used a five goal run to break away, taking a 6-1 lead with 90 seconds to go in the second quarter. O'Hara put the Bearcats on the board just before half to try to give BU some momentum. To start the second half, Winkoff scored his second goal of the game to cut the lead to 6-3.
Seniors Andrew Arce and Vincent Basile each found the back of the net in the third quarter to cut the Riverhawks lead to 7-5 with a minute left in the third period. A late goal in the final seconds of the third period by Lowell's Bradley Brown pushed the Riverhawks lead back to three.
The Bearcats defense gave up just three goals in the second half but it wasn't enough to fend off Lowell. Despite losing the faceoff battle 14-6, the Bearcats were able to outshoot the Riverhawks but UMass Lowell's goalie Anthony Mancino came up big down the stretch, finishing with 12 saves.
The Bearcats will look to start fresh, with the America East playoffs set to begin on Thursday. BU is scheduled to play UMBC at 4 p.m. in Burlington, Vt., where the No. 1 seed Vermont will host the playoffs.
