Softball Sweeps Hartford 10-3 and 1-0

Richmond drives in four runs, L’Amoreaux tosses one-hit shutout

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior infielder Alli Richmond homered and drove in four runs while sophomore pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux threw a one-hit shutout, leading Binghamton (18-19, 5-6 AE) to a 10-3, 1-0 sweep over Hartford (13-29, 2-12 AE) in an America East softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the sweep, the Bearcats have now won four of their last five games.

Richmond, who finished the day 3-for-6 (.500), tied her career high with three RBI in the first game and belted her fourth home run of the season in the second game. She now has a team-best 21 RBI for the season.

L'Amoreaux, meanwhile, allowed just a pair of base runners in the nightcap against Hartford. She struck out three batters and evened her record at 9-9 this season. L'Amoreaux's shutout was her second of the season.

Also at the plate on Saturday, freshman outfielder Sarah Rende was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. She now leads the team with five home runs so far this season.

Senior outfielder Chloe Morgan led the Bearcats with a .600 batting average on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a RBI and run scored. Senior infielder Makayla Alvarez was 2-for-6 (.333).

As a team, Binghamton hit .313 during the doubleheader.

"We have become more aggressive and have gone after good pitches," head coach Jess Bump said. "Our players have worked really hard this week hitting wise at practice and that showed today."

In the opener, Rende keyed a three-run bottom of the first inning that put the Bearcats up 3-1. She broke a 1-1 tie with her two-run homer over the left-field fence.

One inning later, the Bearcats tacked on three more runs to go up 6-1. Morgan singled home the first run and Richmond followed with a two-run single.

Hartford got a pair of runs back in the top of the third inning. From there, however, the Bearcats took advantage of two Hawks errors to plate their final four runs of the game. They scored twice during both the fourth and sixth innings.

Senior pitcher Sophia Pappas came on in relief in the top of the fourth inning and held the Hawks scoreless the rest of the game. In the process, she nailed down her third save of the season.

Caycee English took the loss for Hartford, dropping her record to 6-9.

Morgan finished a perfect 3 for-3 in the first game.

Richmond's solo home run in the bottom of the third inning of the nightcap proved to be the only run the Bearcats would need. It extended her hitting streak to six games, which ties her career high.

Julia Kocenski of Hartford was tagged with the loss in the second game, dropping her record to 7-13.

Binghamton and Hartford conclude their weekend series on Sunday with a single game at noon.
