Baseball drops non-conference game at St. Bona 7-3

Reilly homers, has six hits in last three games; Tully goes 2-for-4

OLEAN, N.Y. - Host St. Bonaventure built a 5-1 lead and held off Binghamton baseball 7-3 Tuesday afternoon at Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The Bearcats (5-18) held a 9-7 hits advantage but couldn't rally after falling behind early. St. Bonaventure (1-18) scored single runs in the first and second innings and then added three in the third to create a cushion. The Bearcats countered with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to pull within two, 5-3. But the Bonnies kept BU off the board over the last four innings and tacked on two late-inning runs for the final margin.

Sophomore catcher Kevin Reilly continued his hot-hitting with a 2-for-4 showing. Reilly belted a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning and now has six hits in his last three games. Junior left fielder Cavan Tully went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.

Down 2-0, BU got one back in the third after Tully was hit-by-pitch to lead off. Junior first baseman Connor Aoki moved Tully over with a one-out single and freshman second baseman Nick Roselli plated him with a two-out RBI single through the left side.

But the Bonnies stretched their 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame with three runs on just two hits (singles).

After Reilly's blast made it 5-2, BU pulled closer in the fifth. Freshman center fielder Logan Haskell drew a one-out walk and stole second. Freshman DH Evin Sullivan then came through with a two-out RBI single to make the score 5-3. After Tully hit a one-out double down the right field line in the seventh, BU had the tying run to the plate but couldn't cash in. The Bonnies then scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to seal the win.

The Bearcats used a predetermined rotation of seven pitchers and sophomore Alex Henderson (1.2 IP) and junior Tanner Sinicki  each threw a hitless and scoreless frame.

Binghamton next welcomes Hartford to the Bearcats Baseball Stadium for a weekend set, beginning with a 3 p.m. game on Friday.
