VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting UMBC (18-24, 8-13 America East) built a 12-1 lead and salvaged the final game of the weekend series with a 12-7 win over Binghamton baseball (15-22, 11-10 AE) Sunday afternoon at Bearcats Baseball Stadium.Â
The Retrievers collected 17 hits off three BU pitchers and kept BU's offense in check until the Bearcats produced a five-run ninth inning fueled by multiple pinch-hitters.Â
UMBC scored three runs in the second and two more in the third to take control early. They plated three more in the fifth before BU got on the board with two hits and an RBI groundout. The Retrievers finished off their offensive production with a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth.Â

Jake Evans had a two-hit day and raised his conference-game batting average to .472. Evans went 5-for-10 in the weekend series. Senior right fielder

Eric Madenberg also drove in two runs - one in each of the final two frames.Â
The Bearcats left nine runners stranded and squandered a few scoring chances in the first few innings before the game got away. Â
Binghamton hosts Cornell at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday to continue its 11-game homestand.Â
