Men’s Soccer Plays to 0-0 Tie Against Canisius

Bearcats finish with 21-2 shot advantage but unable to net a goal

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton (0-4-2) won big in terms of total shots and possession time but settled for a scoreless tie against Canisius (1-2-2) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match marked the second straight draw for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats finished with a 21-2 advantage in total shots – as well as a 7-1 edge in shots on goal. The 21 shots tied the second-highest total for Binghamton in a game played at the Bearcats Sports Complex since the facility opened in 2007.

In addition, Binghamton finished with a 66-34 percent lead in possession time. Of their possession time, the Bearcats were on the opposing side of the field for 74 percent of that span.

In the end, however, Binghamton could not put the ball past Canisius goalkeeper William Howard, who finished the match with seven saves. At the other end of the field, senior goalkeeper Mats Roorda only needed to make one save in recording the Bearcats' first shutout of the season.

"I thought it was a great match for us and our guys were outstanding today," head coach Paul Marco said. "The only thing we lacked was a goal in the end but everything else was good. We were good on the attack and on wide play. The back players played well. I don't know what I could be critical of other than the outcome of the game."

Binghamton closes out its three-match home stand against Hofstra on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

NOTE: The facility record for the most Binghamton shots in a match is 24, vs. Niagara on Sept. 27, 2009.
