Wrestling drops EIWA battle at Drexel, 19-12

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Binghamton wrestling dropped a hard-fought EIWA battle to Drexel at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Friday night. The Bearcats won two of the first three bouts, but Drexel rebounded to win the next four bouts. At 184 pounds, No. 23 Jacob Nolan won the only matchup of ranked wrestlers, defeating No. 25 Brian Bonino by decision, 3-1, in sudden victory. Drexel secured the victory with an overtime win at 197 pounds. No. 21 Cory Day continued his success in dual matches this season with a 2-0 victory at heavyweight.

Highlights 
  • Micah Roes had a strong third period to win a 6-3 decision against Antonio Mininno. Leading 3-2 in the third period, Roes scored two insurance points with a key takedown and locked up the riding time point to give the Bearcats an early lead in the dual.
     
  • Nate Lucier displayed his aggressive style for the full seven minutes to win a 6-1 decision against Jordan Soriano. Lucier scored first with a takedown early in the first period. Lucier led 2-1 to begin the second period. He reversed Soriano to extend the lead to 4-1. In the third period, Lucier escaped quickly and had plenty of riding time to secure the additional point. 
     
  • No. 23 Jacob Nolan won the battle of top 25 wrestlers at 184 pounds. Nolan defeated No. 25 Brian Bonino, 3-1, in overtime. After a scoreless first period, Nolan trailed 1-0 at the end of the second period. Nolan escaped in the third period to tie the bout at 1-1. Early in sudden victory, Nolan scored the winning takedown.
     
  • No. 21 Cory Day earned a hard fought decision victory against Santino Morina, 2-0. Day scored his points on a stalling call and an escape.
