Men’s Soccer Defeated by No. 22 Vermont 5-0 in Homecoming Game

Catamounts break match open with four second-half goals

VESTAL, N.Y. — Sydney Wathula finished with a goal and an assist while Nick Lockermann and Jacob Vitale were each credited with two assists, leading No. 22 Vermont (9-2-2, 3-1-0 AE) to a 5-0 victory over Binghamton (3-7-2, 1-1-2 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match marked the Bearcats' annual Homecoming Game.

The Catamounts blew the match open with four second-half goals within a span of 13 minutes. They were already up 1-0 heading into that stretch on a goal by Max Murray in the 14th minute.

In the 57th minute, Zach Barrett headed in a goal from a corner kick by Lockermann after the ball was deflected by Wathuta. At the 62:11 mark, Lockermann recorded his second assist of the match by taking an initial shot that was deflected to Carter Johnson. Johnston then scored from close range.

The Catamounts added two more goals before the match ended - both of which were assisted by Vitale. Wathulu scored in the 65th minute and Yaniv Bazini scored five minutes later.

Vermont out shot Binghamton 18-8 and held a 7-2 shot-on-goal advantage.

Binghamton hosts Cornell in a non-conference match on Tuesday at 6:07 p.m.

NOTES: At halftime, the 2003 Binghamton men's soccer team was honored for its Hall of Fame induction earlier in the day. That Bearcat squad won the America East title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
