Recap of a busy weekend for the BU Athletic Department

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton Athletic Department had several events going on during the recent Homecoming Weekend on campus. They also took part in events that were sponsored by other departments within the university.

On Friday evening, #OneBinghamtonMadness was held at the Events Center. It was the first formal introductory event of the 2023-24 men's and women's basketball seasons.

On Saturday morning, the West Gym was the location of the third annual Chris Wenzel Memorial 5K run. Named in honor of a late former BU swimmer, the event attracted over 100 participants – including the current Binghamton swimming & diving teams as well as a handful of track & field athletes.

During the afternoon, both the men's soccer and men's lacrosse teams held alumni games at the Bearcats Sports Complex. In addition, several women's lacrosse alums came back to watch the current Bearcats hold their annual fall game.

At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the Athletic Department held its annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This year's inductees included golfer Jake Katz, women's tennis player Julie Klein, former athletic director Dave Henderson, softball pitcher Margaret Yerdon, men's soccer standout Skip Curth as well as the entire 2003 men's soccer team.

Following the Hall of Fame ceremony, the 2003 men's soccer team got to meet the current Binghamton men's soccer squad prior to the annual Homecoming Game against No. 22 Vermont. The 2003 team was also recognized during halftime of the match.

Despite the constant rain on Saturday, the annual Fall Festival was held in the Events Center Parking Lot on Saturday afternoon. Several of the Hall of Fame inductees - as well as other Bearcat and Colonial alums and their families - took part in festivities.

Sunday wrapped up with the women's soccer team's 2-0 win over Vermont at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victory, the Bearcats remained in first place in the America East Conference.

The news was just as good off campus for the Binghamton athletic teams that were on the road during Homecoming Weekend. The volleyball team recorded a three-set sweep over Albany to remain in first place in the America East Conference. The men's cross country team, meanwhile, won the Canisius Alumni Classic and the Bearcat women were second out of 12 teams at that meet.
