Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Marist Invite

Bearcats competed against three teams Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University women's tennis team played three matches Friday at the Marist Invite. Due to inclement weekend weather, the Bearcats took on Rider, Marist and NJIT in three consecutive matches at Cross Court Tennis Facility.

BU registered two doubles and singles wins over Rider to start off the day before winning one doubles match against Marist. Binghamton ended the afternoon against NJIT but recorded no victories.

"Playing at Marist gave us a chance to play a lot of competitive matches in both singles and doubles in one day," said Head Coach Libby McGovern. "This was a great event for us to be able to mix and match doubles partners throughout the day, which isn't typical. Overall, I was pleased with how we played doubles. We really should have come away with 2 doubles points against Rider and Marist."

"We had a lot of competitive sets in singles," she added. "As the day went on, my philosophy was more about getting people more singles match experience than it was about matching opponents head to head."

"It was great to have Maria back on the singles court. The last time she competed in singles was at Marist in the spring. She came out and competed really well for not having played a singles match since February," McGovern said.

Next up, the Bearcats will travel west to take on the University at Buffalo in a doubleheader style match to close out fall competition, Saturday, Oct. 28.
