Volleyball Set to Host UAlbany, NJIT

Bearcats look to improve 4-1 conference record

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (11-9, 4-1) will host UAlbany (7-13, 2-4) and NJIT (8-13, 1-5) in a pair of America East matches this weekend inside West Gym. The Bearcats will face UAlbany, Friday at 6 p.m. and NJIT, Sunday at 1 p.m. 

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and on America East TV for international viewers. The contests can also be followed through live stats here on bubearcats.com. 

BU looks to improve on its 4-1 conference record this weekend after dropping its most recent match 3-0 to America East leaders UMBC last Wednesday, Oct. 19. 

Binghamton currently leads the league with a .227 team hitting percentage. BU dominates the conference standings with 181 blocks at 2.45 per set. The team also holds the top spot in opponent blocks with just a 1.55 avg/s. 

Senior outside hitter Tsvetelina Ilieva ranks first in the America East in kills with 321 total for an average of 4.34 per set and in points with 373 for a 5.04 set average. Ilieva ranks eighteenth nationally in points per set, nineteenth in kills per set, as well as twenty sixth in points and total kills. 

Graduate student and middle blocker Anna Sprys leads the America East in blocks with a 1.22 average per set and 90 total. Freshman middle blocker Misa Dlouha follows right behind her teammate in second with 80 for 1.08 avg/s. 

UAlbany owns a 32-17 series lead over the Bearcats. Yet, BU swept the Great Danes 3-0 in the team's road-match up just two weeks ago, Oct. 15. 

BU leads the all-time series 6-2 against NJIT. Binghamton earned its first America East victory this season 3-0 on the Highlanders home court, Sep. 29. The Bearcats have won the last five matches played against the conference foe, with the final four being taken 3-0 in straight sets. 

Next up, Binghamton will travel to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant, Friday, Nov. 3. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
