VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball put five in double figures and shot 59 percent to topple visiting Keystone College 104-50 in its home opener Sunday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.Â
After back-to-back road games against Power 5 opponents, BU settled in early against the Division III Giants. Midway through the first half, the Bearcats used a 21-4 run in a six-minute span to take control. Freshman guard
Evan Ashe scored 15 of his team-high 19 points in the first half and BU shot 63 percent to build a 59-22 cushion. A considerable size and speed advantage led to a plus-30 disparity on the glass. The Bearcats got point production from 11 different players and received 62 points from their bench.
Graduate guard
Symir Torrence nearly had a triple-double in just 20 minutes of work, tallying 10 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. After scoring 15 points Friday at Pitt, Ashe went for 19 on 7-of-10 shooting. He hit 3-of-5 three-pointers in 26 minutes. Sophomore forward
Chris Walker also drilled three long-distance shots and wound up with 15 points. Graduate forward
Armon Harried and graduate center
Taveion White added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Harried added five assists and two blocks and in his first outing of the season, White chipped in eight boards and a block.Â
Binghamton's defense held Keystone to 27 percent shooting.  Â
"I think our response to the Pitt game was a product of a good mental practice yesterday," associate head coach
Brian Johnson said. "We came ready ... we wanted to work on some things and focus on our offensive execution and we showed that tonight. Holding anyone to 27 percent is something our guys can be proud of. We've been working on upping our assist numbers and limiting the turnovers and we did that as well."Â
The 104 points were the most since BU scored 110 against Hartwick on Nov. 28, 2021. Â
The Bearcats next play at Loyola Wednesday night in Baltimore. Â
