Volleyball Falls to UMBC in America East Final

Ilieva, Sprys named to All-Championship Team

BALTIMORE, Md. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (15-13, 7-5) fell 3-0 to UMBC in the America East Championship Final Saturday night inside Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. 

Tsvetelina Ilieva and Anna Sprys were named to the conference's All-Championship Team for their performance in the postseason tournament. Ilieva totalled 25 kills and 20 digs in two matches for the Bearcats while Sprys registered 18 kills, 10 blocks and a .303 hitting percentage in her final two matches for BU. 

Ilieva also earned the America East Elite Eight as the player in the championship tournament with the highest GPA at 3.98. 

Despite the loss, Binghamton continued its dominance at the net, owning a 10-7 block advantage. Misa Dlouha led the Bearcats with five successful rejections while Lottie Scully and Sprys made four each. 

Tsvetelina Ilieva earned a team-best 10 kills for Binghamton, her twenty-fifth double-digit kill performance of the season. Ella Schabort followed her teammate with eight kills at a .227 clip. Sprys and Dlouha chipped in four kills apiece. 

Scully tacked on 23 assists and six digs at setter and Madison Konopka recorded a team-high seven. 

The Bearcats concluded the 2023 season with tonight's loss and looks to remain fierce America East competitors once again in 2024.
