SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Faith Alston poured in a game-high 22 points and Emily Carvey added 17 points, leading Appalachian State (4-1) to a 68-57 victory over Binghamton in a non-conference women's basketball game at Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez on Friday afternoon. The contest marked the first of two games for the Bearcats at the Puerto Rico Sports Tours Clasico.
Alston, who also finished with a game-high four assists, two blocks and a steal, shot 9-for-24 from the field, drained a three-point field goal and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Carvey, meanwhile, was 6-of-14 from the field, swished a pair of three-point field goals and was also 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
Graduate student guard
Denai Bowman led the Bearcats with 14 points. She also added five rebounds, two blocks, a steal and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Redshirt sophomore guard
Jadyn Weltz finished with 13 points, dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds.
Bowman now has 1,280 points for her career and moves into seventh place all time in Binghamton program history. Against Appalachian State, she surpassed Cathy Mackin (1994-98), who scored 1,269 points during her career.
In a game that featured seven ties and eight lead changes, the Bearcats were ahead 34-31 with 8:08 left in the third period. From there, however, the Mountaineers went on a 10-0 run in the ensuing 2:56 to take a 41-34 lead. Four different Appalachian State players scored during that stretch.
The Bearcats got to within 59-53 on a jumper by Weltz with 4:27 left to go in regulation. Appalachian State, however, sealed the win with a 9-2 spurt to take a 68-55 lead with 1:01 remaining in regulation.
Rylan Moffit added 12 points in the winning effort.

Shannon O'Connor came off the bench to score a season-best six points. Sophomore guard
Meghan Casey, meanwhile, tied Weltz for the team high with three assists.
The Mountaineers had a 38-22 advantage in point in the paint and outrebounded the Bearcats 32-26.
At the free throw line, Binghamton shot 15-of-16 for the game (93.8 percent). That marks the Bearcats' highest percentage of the season.
Binghamton plays Furman on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday in its final game at the Puerto Rico Sports Tours Clasico.
