ITHACA, N.Y./BOSTON, Mass. – Redshirt freshman
Brian Luciano broke his own school record in winning a weight throw title, highlighting Binghamton's performances in a pair of indoor track & field meets this weekend. The Bearcats took part in the Greg Page Relays at Cornell as well as the Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University. There was no team scoring at either meet.
Luciano won the weight throw at Cornell with a distance of 63-7 ½. That broke his previous school record of 59-10 1/2, which was set at last season's Greg Page Relays. He was second place in that meet but injuries led to him red shirting the rest of the 2022-23 season. This past summer, however, Luciano was sixth in the hammer at the USATF Junior National Meet.
Also in the hammer throw at Cornell, junior
Jaston Ormsby was third with a personal-best distance of 59-0 ¾. In the women's weight throw, junior
Gianna Hoose was third with a personal-best distance of 52-3 1/4.
In Boston, meanwhile, senior
Josh Stone clocked a time of 14:07.80 in the men's 5,000. That performances ranks second all-time in Binghamton program history behind only the 13:36.22 run by Dan Schaffer in 2022. Stone's previous best time of 14:10.30 was recorded during the previous indoor track season.
The Boston/Colyear-Danville Season Opener featured many of the top college programs as well as professional runners. There were 208 total finishers in the men's 5,000 with Stone recorded the 113
th-fastest time.
Binghamton travels to the Seahawk Shootout next Friday at the Ocean Breeze Track Facility in Staten Island. The meet will be hosted by Wagner College.
