VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior forward
Genevieve Coleman scored 15 points while freshman guard
Bella Pucci finished with career highs in points (13) and rebounds (nine), pacing Binghamton (5-8) to a 68-54 win over Chestnut Hill (5-5) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The victory was the third straight for the Bearcats as well as their final non-conference game of the season.
Coleman went 7-of-12 from the field and drained her lone three-point shot. She also finished with seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
Pucci, meanwhile, was 4-for-7 from the floor, a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range and made both of her free throws. Her nine rebounds also marked the game high.
Also reaching double figures in scoring for the Bearcats was sophomore guard
Meghan Casey, who chipped in 10 points.
There were seven lead changes in the opening 21 minutes of play before the Bearcats blew the game open with a 13-0 run in a span of 3:37 to take a 42-30 lead with 5:30 left in the third period. Redshirt sophomore guard
Jadyn Weltz paced a balanced attack with four points during that stretch.
In the fourth period, the Bearcats put the game out of reach with a 14-4 run over a stretch of 4:23 to go up 66-45 with 4:44 left in regulation. Pucci had two of her three-point field goals during that span.
"We talked at halftime about doing the little things like getting shots and pushing the tempo and they did that," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "We did a much better job today of not giving up second-chance points and scoring in the paint."
Bridie McCann of Chestnut Hill led all scorers with 21 points. She was 8-of-16 from the field, made three three-point field goals and hit both of her free throws.
Freshman forward
Kendall Bennett finished with eight points, four rebounds and a game-high three blocks. Also scoring eights points was redshirt sophomore guard
Ella Wanzer, who also had six rebounds, two assists and a block.
Sophomore forward
Camryn Fauria, meanwhile, finished with seven points, six rebounds and two assists.
The Bearcats turned the ball over just nine times and held an 18-2 lead in points off of turnovers.
The game against Chestnut Hill also marked the return of Reggie Daniels to the Events Center. He was an assistant coach with Binghamton last year before being hired as the head coach of Chestnut Hill last summer.
"Reggie is doing a great job," Shapiro Ord said. "That's a really good (NCAA) Division II team and they are going to do very good in their league this year."
America East play begins for the Bearcats on Thursday, with a 6:07 p.m. home game against UMBC.
