Softball Sweeps Pair of Games at Furman Invitational

Bearcats blank Bellarmine 3-0, edge Towson 3-2

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore outfielders Sarah Rende and Brianna Santos each drove in a pair of runs and freshman pitcher Brianna Roberts fired a two-hit shutout, highlighting Binghamton's sweep in the opening day of the Furman Invitational at Pepsi Softball Stadium on Friday. The Bearcats (3-4) won 3-0 over Bellarmine (0-5) in the opener and rallied for a 3-2 win over Towson (0-1) in the finale.

Rende drove in both of her runs during the game against Bellarmine. She singled home the first run of the game in the top of the first inning and stroked an RBI double two innings later. Junior catcher Hailey Ehlers then tacked on the Bearcats' final run of the game with a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning.

Roberts limited Bellarmine to two hits and a walk and struck out seven batters to record her first career shutout. Her record is now 2-1. The loss was tagged to Elli Jensen, who is now 0-1.

Santos, meanwhile, key a three-run bottom of the third inning with a two-run single. The Bearcats other run of the frame came when freshman shortstop Akira Kopec scored on a throwing error.

Junior pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux shook off a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning to record her first win of the year. She went 4.2 innings and raised her record to 1-2. Graduate student pitcher Sophia Pappas tossed 2.1 shutout innings to record her first save of the season.

Erin Brown took the loss, dropping her record to 0-1.

Junior first baseman Alex Musial finished the day 2-for-5 (.400) while redshirt sophomore designated player Lindsey Walter was 3-for-6 (.500).

Sophomore outfielder Laney Harbaugh scored once in each game.

In addition to not allowing an earned run on Friday, Roberts, L'Amoreaux and Pappas combined to record 13 strikeouts and issued just one walk.
