Baseball explodes for 27-2 win over Mt. St. Mary's

Bade, Roselli combine for 13 RBI as BU plates most runs in 18 years

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomores Devan Bade and Nick Roselli combined for 13 RBI and Binghamton baseball (1-4) erupted for a 27-2 win over Mount St. Mary's (5-2) Saturday afternoon at Dave Couch Ballpark on the Wake Forest campus.

Playing the team's first opponent not in the ACC, BU racked up the most runs in 18 years as every position starter had at least one RBI and one run scored.

Binghamton scored three runs in the first, two in the third, seven in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the six, three in the eighth and then capped the barrage with nine runs in the ninth. In all, BU tallied 22 hits - 10 for extra bases.

Bade went 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI. He ripped a two-run triple in the third, a two-run home run in the fifth and added a three-run home run in the ninth. The four hits and seven RBI are personal highs and each was just one off a school record.

Roselli got the offense clicking in the first inning with a three-run shot. He then added an RBI in the fourth and a two-run single in the eighth. Junior right fielder Mike Gunning went 3-for-5 with an RBI and five runs scored - also one off a school record. Freshman shortstop Mike Stellrecht, senior first baseman Kevin Gsell and junior catcher Kevin Reilly each had two hits and two RBI.

The scoring output was more than enough for junior starter Gabe Driscoll (W, 1-0), who scattered five hits and one run over 6.0 innings. Driscoll struck out five and didn't allow a run in his last five frames before giving way to the bullpen.

Stellrecht belted his first collegiate home run in the eighth, taking a 1-0 pitch over the wall down the left field line for a solo shot. He added an RBI single one inning later.

Binghamton closes out the weekend with a 10 a.m. neutral-site game Sunday against Towson.

NOTES
The 27 runs are the most BU has scored since defeating St. Peter's 34-3 on March 22, 2005 ... the 22 hits equals the number BU had in its 20-5 America East tournament win over NJIT last May and are second only to the 27 hits the Bearcats amassed against NYIT in 2016 ... Bade's seven RBI were one off the record of eight set by Jim Calderone against NJIT on April 25, 2009.
