WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Less than 24 hours after scoring 27 runs, Binghamton baseball (1-5) was held to one run in a 10-1 loss to Towson (1-6) Sunday morning at Dave Couch Ballpark on the Wake Forest campus. The Bearcats finished up the weekend 1-2.Â
The middle innings were costly on Sunday as Towson erased an early 1-0 BU lead with three runs in the third and four more in the fourth. The Tigers added two more in the ninth and BU was held to seven hits - six singles.Â
Junior right fielder
Mike Gunning went 2-for-4 and junior left fielder
Tommy Reifler drove in BU's lone run with a two-out RBI single in the second inning.
On the mound relievers
John Lumpinski (3.0 IP, 1 run, 2K) and
Kyle Eskildsen (2.0 IP, 0 hits) combined to hold Towson to one run in five middle innings.Â
Binghamton put its first two runners on in the second inning but a double play limited the production. The Bearcats also put their first two on in the sixth with singles by Gunning and sophomore second baseman
Nick Roselli. But a strikeout and double play ended that threat. BU stranded eight in the game.Â
Binghamton returns to action Friday with the first of a three-game set at Norfolk State.Â
