- Binghamton (0-0) begins its 22nd season as a NCAA Division I program and as a member of the America East Conference. The Bearcats finished 22-23 last season and were picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Conference Coaches' Poll.
- The Bearcats return three all-conference selections from their 2022 squad. Graduate student
Alli Richmond earned first-team honors at second base after batting .303 with six home runs (HR) and 27 RBI. Sophomore outfield
Sarah Rende (6 HR, 23 RBI) and graduate student utility player/pitcher
Sophia Pappas each earned second-team accolades.
- Playing in the Southern Conference, UNC Greensboro (0-0) finished 39-18 in 2022. The Spartans won the regular-season conference title last season and were picked to finish second in this year's preseason coaches' poll. Delaney Crumbie, Maycin Brown and Grace Loftin each earned first-team all-conference honors in 2022.
- In the only previous game between the two schools, UNC Greensboro beat Binghamton 6-1 back on March 1, 2002 at its home tournament. It was the Bearcats' first-ever game as a NCAA Division I program.
- Host Florida Gulf Coast (0-0) is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) and finished 18-33 last season. The Spartans, who also finished 9-15 in the ASUN, return nine letterwinners from last year's squad. Tayli Filla, an ASUN All-Academic selection in 2022, batted .303 with four HR and 13 RBI last year.
- This marks Binghamton's second trip to the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. In 2012, the Spartans defeated the Bearcats 10-2 in five innings on Feb. 19 of that season. It remains the only previous meeting between the two programs.
- Also traveling from the state of New York is Long Island University (0-0), which is a part of the Northeast Conference (NEC). The Sharks finished 26-31 last season – but were 13-11 in the NEC and advanced to their fifth straight conference title game. LIU has also been picked to finish second in this year's preseason poll. Camryn Lyman hit a team-best .388 last year and drove in 25 runs.
- This season will mark the first-ever meeting between Binghamton and LIU in softball.
- Southern Illinois University (0-0) is part of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) and finished 25-18-1 last year. The Salukis, who also finished 16-10 in the MCV, were picked to finish third in the conference in this year's preseason poll. Rylie Hamilton (five HR and 28 RBI in 2022) and Elizabeth Warwick (6 HR and 35 RBI) were both picked to the preseason All-MVC Team.
- Binghamton and Southern Illinois last squared off in 2001, before the Bearcats moved up to the NCAA Division I level. The Bearcats defeated the Salukis 4-3 on March 13, 2001 at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando.
