Men's basketball storms past UNH on road 66-64

Harried pumps in game-high 23 points, leads second-half rally from 10 down to move BU up in standings

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Armon Harried scored a game-high 23 points and visiting Binghamton men's basketball (10-13, 6-4 America East) used a late 15-0 run to storm past New Hampshire (11-12, 6-5 AE) 66-64 Wednesday night at Lundholm Gym.

The win, BU's fifth in its last eight games, completes a season sweep of UNH and moves the Bearcats to within a half-game of second place in the America East standings with six games left.

"We battled all the way through," head coach Levell Sanders said. "We got down a little bit but I like the way the guys stayed in it and I thought we had enough time to come back and win and that's what we did. Everyone that came in played well … I'm happy to get out of here with a road win."

Harried keyed the pivotal 15-0 run (spanning five minutes) that turned a 10-point Wildcats lead into a five-point Bearcats lead with 5:30 left. He scored eight points in a 1:06 span including back-to-back 3-pointers and then scored his final points on a 3-point play with 22 seconds left – a layup and free throw sequence that gave BU a 66-62 lead.

The Bearcats still had to survive a tense final 12 seconds up 66-64 when two misses on front-end free throws opened the door for UNH. But the Wildcats turned the ball over on a drive to the basketball with one second remaining, sealing the win.

Harried hit 10-of-17 from the floor and added seven rebounds and two assists. Senior guard Jacob Falko tallied 12 points (10 in second half) and a game-high six assists, graduate forward Christian Hinckson had 11 points and senior guard Dan Petcash chipped in 10 points.

UNH used an 11-2 run minutes into the game to forge a lead and they held it for most of the first half. But Harried and Hinckson netted 10 points apiece and junior guard John McGriff added back-to-back buckets late in the half. Petcash cashed in a 3-ball with 39 seconds left and BU ended the period with a 19-9 run to take a 33-30 lead into intermission.

The game featured seven ties and six lead changes.

Binghamton next returns home to host UAlbany Saturday afternoon at the Events Center.
