ARLINGTON, Va. - Junior reliever
John Lumpinski came in and struck out the side with the tying runs on in the eighth and Binghamton baseball (4-6) held off George Washington (3-11) 7-4 in the opening game of a weekend series Friday afternoon at Tucker Field. It was BU's third win in its last four games.Â
The Bearcats led 6-4 when the Colonials put their first two hitters on in the eighth with a single and walk. Lumpinski entered and sat down the next three batters via third strike swings to strand two. Binghamton then added a final run in the ninth before Lumpinski struck out GW's cleanup hitter with one runner on to end the game. He worked 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and notched his first save of the season.
Senior starter
Thomas Babalis (W, 1-2) went 5.1 innings and scattered five hits and two runs. He struck out six and walked a pair.
Binghamton took advantage of five GW errors to plate four unearned runs. The teams had 10 hits apiece.
BU tallied one run in the first, three in the third and then single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. GW countered with two in the sixth and two in the seventh before being overmatched by Lumpinski.

Devan Bade went 2-for-4 with two doubles and senior left fielder
Cavan Tully added two hits. Junior DH
Andrew Tan had an RBI single in the ninth and earlier, sophomore center fielder
Logan Haskell collected an RBI single in the seventh. Â
