Bearcats blanked 7-0 by four-time reigning champion Broncos; next travel to Northern Illinois Sunday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Four-time defending Mid-American Conference champion Western Michigan won the doubles point and then rattled off six singles wins to pin a 7-0 loss on visiting Binghamton men's tennis Friday afternoon at West Hills Athletic Club.

The Bearcats received a 6-1 win at third doubles from the tandem of sophomore Kyle Weekes and freshman Ronin Lotlikar. But WMU won the other two spots and then showed their prowess in singles.

Freshman James McPherson won his opening set and pushed his No. 6 singles foe to a third-set super tiebreak before succumbing 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).

"We had a great, quick start at third doubles and credit to Kyle and Ronin for finishing it out," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "We weren't sharp enough at No. 1 and 2 doubles early and that cost us. We had some moments in singles but we weren't consistent the whole way start to finish and Western makes you pay when you lose that focus for a minute. We need to regroup and get ready to get after NIU on Sunday."

Binghamton next travels to Dekalb, Ill. for a Sunday morning MAC match against Northern Illinois.
