Men’s lacrosse tops Fairfield 14-9 in non-conference finale

Three Bearcats with career-highs in the road win

FAIRFIELD, CONN.- Binghamton men's lacrosse (4-2) defeats Fairfield (2-5) 14-9. Sophomore Matthew Keegan finished the game with a career-high six goals, redshirt junior Thomas Greenblatt finished with a career-high six points (2 goals, 4 assists), and senior Quinn O'Hara finished with a career-high four goals.

"Matt and Thomas can beat a defense in multiple ways," said head coach Kevin McKeown. "Coach Perrelle has done a great job putting them in spots to succeed."

Keegan got off to a fast start in the game scoring the opening goal. The teams would trade two goal runs- junior Ethan Insinga and Keegan scoring for Binghamton- before Greenblatt ended the first quarter scoring to put BU ahead 4-3.

In the second quarter, the Bearcats would outscore the Stags 5-1, with two goals from Keegan, O'Hara, and a lone goal by senior defenseman Declan Ferris.

"Quinn has been shooting the ball very well," said McKeown. "He has used space well and been physical with his dodging."

In the first half, senior Matthew DeSouza and junior Ross Chazanow dominated at the x winning 12-15 faceoffs, with two of the Stags wins coming off of faceoff violations.

"I thought our entire faceoff unit played well, said McKeown, "Aaron Tebo came up with some big groundballs off the wing."

After a slow scoring third period where Keegan recorded his fifth goal and Fairfield responded with a goal of their own BU went into the fourth period leading 10-5.

The Stags would score the first two goals of the fourth period to cut the lead to 10-7 but Keegan would respond for his sixth goal of the game to push the lead to 11-7. After Fairfield responded with a goal to cut the lead back down to three, O'Hara and Greenblatt would score the next three goals to ice the game.

Redshirt freshman Connor Winters played big in the net, getting some big saves in key moments. Winters finished the day with 11 saves, his sixth straight game with at least 10 saves.

Binghamton will begin America East play next Saturday as the team travels to take on associate member Merrimack. The action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
