Softball Heads to Hampton/Norfolk State Invite

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (5-5) went 4-1 at the Furman Invitational two weeks ago (Feb. 17-19). Sophomore utility player Lindsey Walter – the America East Player of the Week on Feb. 21 - hit a team-best .467 (7-for-15) and scored a pair of runs during the tournament. She was also a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. On the mound, she was 1-0 with a save and a perfect 0.00 ERA in a pair of relief appearances.

- Walter leads the Bearcats and is tied for third in the America East with a .429 batting average. Fellow sophomore utility player Brianna Santos is tied for third in the conference with seven RBI. Walter is also second in the America East with a 1.29 ERA while graduate student pitcher Sophia Pappas ranks second with 26 strikeouts.

- In the current national rankings, Pappas is tied for No. 25 with 10.5 strikeouts per game. Walter is tied at No. 16 with 0.75 stolen bases per game while sophomore outfielder Alayna Harbaugh is No. 26 with 0.70 stolen bases per game.

- Hampton (7-4) went 3-1 this past weekend at the Battle of the Bay. For the season, Camryn Bonner leads the Pirates with a .389 batting average and six RBI. On the mound, Bonner is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA.

= In the only previous meeting between the two schools, Hampton defeated Binghamton 5-3 on March 7, 2020.

- Norfolk State (7-4) also took part in the Battle of the Bay this past weekend but its record at the event was 1-2. Gabby Vaughan leads the Spartans with a .345 batting average while Rylie Gilbreath has driven in a team-best seven runs.

-The all-time series between Binghamton and Norfolk State is deadlocked at 2-2. Most recently, the Bearcats took a 5-4 decision on March 6, 2020.

- Delaware (5-8) went 1-3 at the UNC-Greensboro Invitational this past weekend. Katie Scheivert leads the Blue Hens with a .411 batting average while Kiara Mills has driven in a team-best seven runs.

- The all-time series between Binghamton and Delaware is tied at 4-4. In the most recent meeting, the Blue Hens recorded a 2-1 victory on March 8, 2020. That game was the final contest before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancelation of the rest of that season four days later.
