"We always love getting a sweep," head coach
Jess Bump said. "We played good softball all around today and it was nice to see the girls relax and just let the game come to them. Our offense picked up today, we were error free and our pitchers stepped up and got some momentum for us throughout."
In the opener, Rende broke a 1-1 tie with a leadoff home run in the top of the fourth inning. It was her first homer of the season.
One inning later, the Bearcats reeled off four more runs to go up 6-1. Walter and Rende each delivered RBI singles during the frame and Santos drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
From there, Roberts had all of the run support she needed to offset a pair of late Pirate runs. In the process, she struck out a career-high nine batters. Walter then retired the final batter of the game.
Rende finished the first game a perfect 3-for-3. In the process, she tied her career high for hits in a game.
In the second game, Binghamton reeled off seven runs in the top of the third inning and six more runs an inning later. The big hits were a two-run double by senior outfielder
Chloe Morgan and a two-run triple by Harbaugh – both of which came in the fourth inning. Graduate student second baseman
Alli Richmond drove in a run in each inning as did junior catcher
Hailey Ehlers. Morgan also had an RBI single in the third inning.
L'Amoreaux, meanwhile, struck out five batters to raise her record to 2-2 on the season.
Morgan went 2-for-4 in the nightcap with a pair of runs in addition to her three RBI.
The 13 runs scored by the Bearcats in the second game represents its highest total since they defeated Colgate 13-5 on April 2, 2019.
Ehlers finished the day 4-for-7 (.571) while Harbaugh was 4-for-8 (.500).
