Women's Lacrosse edged by UAlbany, 16-11

Carroll and Weltner each record hat tricks

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse dropped a battle to UAlbany on senior day, 16-11, in front of a record-setting crowd of 712 fans at Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Abigail Carroll and Hayley Weltner led the way for Binghamton offensively with three goals each. Weltner finished the game with six draw controls which sets a new BU single-season record.

The Bearcats started fast jumping out to a 3-1 lead with 2:45 left in the first period. Less than two minutes into the game, Olivia Muscolino netted her 30th goal of the season to put the Bearcats in front. After UAlbany tied the game two minutes later (11:21), Kristen Scheidel responded with her 13th goal of the season to put Binghamton back in front with 10:38 left in the first period. Both teams played eight scoreless minutes until Weltner found the back of the net with 2:45 left in the first period for her 19th goal of the season. The Great Danes would grab the late momentum with a goal with less than 10 seconds left in the first period to cut the deficit to one.

In the second period, UAlbany scored three unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the period to grab a 5-3 lead. However, the Bearcats responded with three unanswered goals of their own (Weltner and Carroll (2) over the next seven minutes to regain the lead, 6-5. The Great Danes scored with 1:35 left in the first half to tie the game going into the break.

In the third period, the Great Danes held the Bearcats to just two goals, while scoring four, including one with less than 10 seconds left in the third period to gain the necessary momentum for the final period. With 9:12 left in the fourth period and UAlbany leading 13-8, lightning in the area forced a lengthy delay lasting almost an hour. Both teams went on to score three more goals before the contest ended.

The Bearcats travel to UMass Lowell for the regular season finale on Saturday, April 22.
