Women's Lacrosse defeats UMass-Lowell, 16-8

Bearcats win regular season finale, enter AE tournament as No. 2 seed

LOWELL, Mass. - Binghamton women's lacrosse defeated UMass-Lowell in the regular season finale, 14-6. The Bearcats finish the regular season with 10 wins, which is now the most in program history. Six different Binghamton players tallied two goals in the contest. Kenna Newman had a game-high five points (two goals and three assists).Olivia Muscolino had three goals and one assist. Newman currently has 99 points for her career. Isabella Meli and Marisa Tancredi each finished the game with three points. Kristen Scheidel, Angelina Suau, and Hayley Weltner each had a game-high five draw controls. Scheidel and Suau each had a game-high three ground balls. Suau set a new career-high for draw controls. Suau also finished the game with four caused turnovers. Binghamton will be the No. 2 seed in the America East tournament, which is the highest seed for the team in program history. The Bearcats will have their bye week next week, while the rest of the conference concludes the regular season. The tournament will played in Albany from May 5-7. 

"It was great to see our players close out the regular season with a win, " head coach Stephanie Allen said. "We did a good job of making adjustments after the first quarter tonight. This is good momentum heading into the week off and the conference tournament."

The Bearcats started slow in the first period and trailed 2-0 after the first seven minutes of the contest. Isabella Meli put Binghamton on the board with her 18th goal of the season with 7:20 left in the period. After a UMass-Lowell goal with 4:16 left in the period, Meli found Olivia Muscolino for her 32nd goal of the season to cut the deficit to one. Binghamton finished the opening period strong getting a goal from Hayley Weltner with 20 seconds left to tie the game at 3-3.

In the second period, the River Hawks regained the lead just over a minute into the period. Scheidel converted a man-up opportunity with 13 minutes left to tie the game at 4-4. Weltner gave the Bearcats their first lead of the game off a free position attempt with 11:03 left in the period. Almost two minutes later, UMass-Lowell responded with another goal to tie the game again. However, Binghamton responded with three unanswered goals (Meli, Muscolino, and Tancredi) to end the half with a 8-5 lead. 

Binghamton outscored the River Hawks 4-1 in the third period receiving goals from Tancredi, Newman, Emma Conroy, and Madison Murphy to extend the lead to 12-6. 

In the final period, Binghamton scored three consecutive goals (Newman, Conroy, and Muscolino) to stretch the lead to nine. Rebecca Korn scored the final Binghamton goal of the evening in the final two minutes. 

The Bearcats will travel to Albany for the America East tournament, which will be played from May 5-7.
