UNION, N.J. - Junior starter
Gabe Driscoll limited host NJIT to three hits over 7.0 innings and Binghamton baseball (20-14, 7-5 America East) scored four decisive runs in the fourth inning to topple the Highlanders (15-21, 6-6 AE) 7-2 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium at Kean University. The win allowed BU to move into third place in the standings, 1.5 games out of second at the halfway point of the conference slate.Â
After allowing a 2-run home run in the first inning, Driscoll (W, 5-0) pitched six straight scoreless innings, retiring 10 in a row at one point. He struck out four and lowered his season ERA to 3.98. Senior closer
Jack Collins worked the last two scoreless frames.Â
Sophomore second baseman
Nick Roselli got BU on the board with an RBI triple in the first inning and he added an RBI single in the seventh to finish his two-hit, two-RBI day. Roselli boosted his team-leading RBI count to 35 (in 34 games), good for fourth in the America East.Â
Senior first baseman
Kevin Gsell plated Roselli with a sacrifice fly to give BU a quick 2-0 lead. NJIT tied it with the home run in the bottom of the frame.
But the Bearcats scored four runs on three hits in the fourth to take the lead for good. After back-to-back singles by junior DH
Mike Gunning and junior outfielder
Christian Perez, junior shortstop
Isaiah Corry delivered an RBI single and senior left fielder
Cavan Tully followed with a perfectly executed squeeze bunt to score Perez from third and make it 4-2. Junior center fielder
Tommy Reifler plated another with an RBI groundout and the sixth run came across on a balk.Â
Binghamton added a final run in the seventh on a Reifler leadoff walk, stolen base and Roselli single. Reifler collected a hit to remain atop the America East with his .397 average.
The Bearcats host Siena at 7 p.m. Tuesday night before welcoming UMBC to the Stadium for a key weekend set.    Â
