Baseball topples Siena 9-4

Roselli drives in two, nine Bearcats collect a hit apiece and 25 see action in non-conference win

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (21-14) scored seven runs in the second inning and rolled to a 9-4 win over visiting Siena (9-32) Tuesday night at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.

The Bearcats condensed their scoring to two innings and won for the ninth time in the last 14 games to kick off a five-game homestand.

The teams registered nine hits apiece but BU built a 9-1 lead and used nine pitchers (one inning each) and 25 roster players in the game.

Sophomore third baseman Nick Roselli led the second-inning barrage with a bases-loaded two-run single. Binghamton batted around and also received RBI hits from sophomore third baseman Devan Bade and junior shortstop Isaiah Corry and benefited from five walks in the frame - including two with the bases loaded.

Siena put its first two runners on base in six of the first seven innings but BU pitchers held firm and left 15 Saints runners stranded in the game. The final time Siena threatened but couldn't convert was in the ninth, when they loaded the bases with one out. But freshman left fielder Nick Ungania caught a fly ball and fired home to junior catcher Andrew Tan to complete the double play and end the game.

Junior John Lumpinski struck out three in a scoreless second inning to earn his first win of the season. Senior Kyle Eskildsen also struck out the side in his inning (4th) and BU pitchers compiled 11 strikeouts.

Roselli ran his team-high RBI count to 37 for the season, third-most in the America East.

Binghamton stays at home for a key three-game weekend series against UMBC this weekend, beginning with a Friday night tilt. The Retrievers are tied for second in the conference, 1.5 games ahead of the Bearcats.
