Shelby Carvalho and redshirt sophomore pinch hitter
Gabby Guerrero each belted a three-run home run as Binghamton (26-13) swept Army (17-31) 10-6, 6-1 in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victories, the Bearcats finish the home portion of their schedule with a 10-2 record and have now won 12 of their last 15 games.
Carvalho, who now has two home runs this season, capped a four-run comeback by the Bearcats over the final three innings of the first game. Guerrero, who also has a pair of home runs this season, blew the second game open with her fourth-inning home run.
Sophomore outfielder
Laney Harbaugh hit a team-best .556 during the doubleheader, going 5-for-9 with three RBI. Junior pitcher
Allison L'Amoreaux earned a complete-game victory in the nightcap and at the plate, she finished the day 2-for-6 (.333).
Graduate student pitcher
Sophia Pappas got the win in the first game and went a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. She also drove in two runs.
"We tell everyone before the game to be ready," head coach
Jess Bump said. "We want to put all of our players in the right situations and both Shelby and Gabby got their pitches today. Everyone has been coming into games this year and executing what we ask them to do off the bench. I am super proud of everyone today."
The Bearcats were down 5-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning of the opener when Harbaugh had an RBI single. One inning later, the Bearcats plated three more runs to tie the game at 5-5. Pappas doubled home a run and Harbaugh capped the frame with her second RBI single in as many innings.
The Bearcats then broke the tie with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Graduate student second baseman
Alli Richmond bunted home the first run and Pappas doubled home the second run of the frame. That set the stage for Carvalho's three-run homer that broke the game open.
Pappas improved to 5-5 with the victory and has now won her last three decisions. Taking the loss was Alicyn Grete, who record dropped to 3-8.
In the second game, Richmond opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second inning. One inning later, L'Amoreaux padded the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single.
Binghamton then padded the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Harbaugh singled home the first run and scored one batter later on Guerrero's three-run homer run. Guerrero now has two home runs in the past five games.
L'Amoreaux had a no hitter going through four innings, but that was broken up when Maddie Wilkes drilled a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. Still, L'Amoreaux scattered one run on five hits and struck out four batters to raise her record to 4-3.
The loss was tagged to Breanna Izzo, who is now 6-6.

Lindsey Walter each went 2-for-6 (.333) on the day. Kopec also drew three walks while Rende and Walter each were walked twice.
As a team, Binghamton hit .357 during the doubleheader against Army. The Bearcats finished the day with seven extra-base hits.
Binghamton returns to conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Maine.
NOTES: Richmond now leads the team with four home runs so far this season … as a team, Binghamton is now hitting a conference-best .306.
