Softball Gains Split at Siena

Bearcats win opener 4-3, lose nightcap 4-2

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Junior pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux went 3-for-6 with a home run at the plate and struck out a career-high nine batters, highlighting Binghamton's non-conference softball doubleheader split against Siena on Thursday afternoon at the Siena Softball Field. The Bearcats (15-11) hung on to win the first game 4-3 but the Saints (19-9) took the second game 4-2, which was called after five innings due to darkness.

L'Amoreaux, who started the first game, went 5.1 innings to collect the win. She also belted her home run in that victory. She played first base in the second game and went 2-for-3. For the day, L'Amoreaux scored a pair of runs.

Sophomore outfielder Sarah Rende and graduate student second baseman Alli Richmond each drove in a pair of runs during the doubleheader. Rende finished the day 2-for-4 (.500) with a pair of doubles and also drew two walks. Richmond, meanwhile, was 2-for-6 (.333) during the two games.

Leading Binghamton in batting again, however, was redshirt sophomore utility player Lindsey Walter, who finished the day 3-for-5 (.600). In the process, she improved her batting average for the season to a team-best .486.

L'Amoreaux's solo home run in the top of the second inning of the opener tied the score at 1-1. Two innings later, the Bearcats plated three more runs to go up 4-1. Rende drove in the first two runs on a double and scored one batter later on an RBI single by Richmond.

Siena came back with single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, trimming the deficit to 4-3. Ava Fitzmaurice scored the first run when she stole home and Emma Peterson homered one inning later.

Freshman pitcher Brianna Roberts, however, was able to get out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to nail down the save.

L'Amoreaux's record improved to 3-2 while Roberts recorded her second save. Taking the loss was Nicole Patille, who is now 2-3.

Redshirt sophomore utility player Brianna Santos went 2-for-3 in the first game, extending her hitting streak to a career-best nine games.

In the second game, however, it was Siena that had the big inning. The Saints scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Fitzmaurice drove in the first run on an RBI single and scored one batter later on a two-run double by Angelina Stile.

Richmond doubled home a run in the top of the fifth inning but the Bearcats left the tying runs on base when the game ended.

Fitzmaurice got the win in the second game, upping her record to 8-3. Graduate student pitcher Sophia Pappas was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 1-4.

Binghamton hosts Albany in an America East series this coming weekend. The two teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a single game at noon on Sunday.
